Well, late entry today. I am on my way to a concert in King of Prussia. We are going to see Poco and Craig Beckheart. Its about a 2 hour trip. I have the Toshiba today and we took the truck this time so nice and comfortable this time. So, lets start the “update” section.
Slash news first. Why Slash first? Its simply really. I said so! Anyway… I am thinking of replacing the NIMH batteries I use with some 3 cell LiPo packs. This is more of a “supplementing” replacement though as I will still use the old batteries. If I don’t use them on the Slash, the Evader will use them for sure.
So, why the sudden change in thoughts on LiPo? My complaints have always been cost and the fact that they tend to be able to charge up less then a NIMH. I have read that NIMH can take around 1000 charge cycles while LiPo can only take 300 but I may be wrong on that. Cost wise I can not justify spending 150 or more on ONE battery. Well, the batteries I want are only 50 bucks each.
The downside to such cheap batteries? Ordering them from Hong Kong. Yes they are from Hong Kong. They are 3s 5000MAH 25c Zippy batteries, for 50 bucks each. Why so cheap? Hobby City owns the factory that makes them. I have 2 of the 2200mah 3s Zippy-H (midrange line) for my Blade 400. I will also be ordering a second Accucell 6 charger.
Of course, I need to save up at least another 100 bucks before I can order so it will be some time before I do get them. I have 85 now, and will need about 190 plus shipping. Think of it though, I will be able to run at over 60MPH on my Slash. That is going to be insanely fun. I like using it with NIMH but they don’t last long with the high drain on them with brushless.
If you told me 10 years ago an electric can do speeds over 75MPH I would have skipped nitro in a heart beat. I am sorry I went nitro in the first place. Its a huge money pit and too annoying and messy for me. Electric is charge plug play. I just have to say one thing though.
Electric will always fail in one aspect of nitro. Nitro has that smell, sound, sight, power, its a rush. Now seeing a Savage Flux do a standing backflip is a huge rush too. Nothing though, can compare to the sound of a small engine ripping and screaming. Electric doesn’t have any exhaust either. Thats one of the real reasons I love nitro. The smell and sound.
Speaking of the Savage Flux. Holy hell that thing rips hard. Seeing it do a standing backflip on 2 2s LiPo packs is amazing. Traxxas, I don’t care if the E Revo has neat suspension, unless it can do a standing backflip, I am not very interested right now. Sorry but I want a Savage Flux now. Running ona pair of 3s would be amazing since it does 62MPH. Now that, on a monster truck, is INSANE!
Speaking of which. I would LOOOOVE to convert my buggy to brushless and run a pair of 3s. I can not spend 300 bucks on a Mamba Monster Max though. They can do 85MPH in videos I have seen online. I do miss having four wheel drive on my Slash too. I got to say I am still in love with my Slash. Its not the best in grass, but on dirt or road its a beast.
Now, lets move on to Evader real quick. The ball differential went NOMNOMNOM and killed itself again. Now I am thinking of buying some better Carbide steel balls this time. They cost more though at 12 dollars for the 12 main balls. They are supposed to hold up a lot better. I am also going to get differential grease as I think the Silicone one I used wasn’t good enough. Ball differential grease is supposed to be different then plain grease, and I read I should be using white lithium grease on the trust bearing to keep it very smooth. I also should plug the outdrive up with something to keep the dirt out as that is one way the differential can die.
The evader is running the stock motor right now but with an XL5 speed controller from my Slash. It will get the Method R once the stock motor dies out. I would like to go brushless on it one day with a cheap setup from hobby city or maybe a VXL. I really like the VXL since its easier to setup.
Short helicopter update: I put deans plugs on the Blade 400 but the one wire had a bad solder joint so I am redoing it soon and will be starting RADDS school. I think this may be the best way to learn for me. I have tried on the simulator and its just too hard for me.
And finally a short computer update. I have been using the Fujitsu with Windows 95 now. I am trying to learn Python again so I am writing down and entering a tutorial into the Fujitsu. It kills 2 birds with 1 stone. I learn something and have an excuse to use the Fujitsu.
Supper today was Papa Johns pizza and I really enjoyed it. The concert was a lot of fun but I had some trouble finding good wifi which really sucks. I did get one though so this was posted a little later then normal but not too bad.
